Warpspace Raises Series C Financing Led by SPARX “Space Frontier Fund” to Accelerate Commercialization of Optical Communications Modem and Digital Twin Solutions

 January 21st, 2026

Warpspace Inc. has completed a Series C financing through a third-party allotment. The round was led by Space Frontier Fund No. 2, managed by SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd.

In addition to Space Frontier Fund No. 2, the financing included participation from existing investor Kohoku Kogyo Co., Ltd., and new investors All Nippon Airways Trading Co., Ltd., Toyota Invention Partners, Inc., and MIC VI Limited Liability Fund (General Partner: Mobile Internet Capital, Inc.). Warpspace will use the proceeds to accelerate business development, product commercialization, and organizational growth to further strengthen its business platform toward the industrialization of space optical communications.

With this financing, Warpspace will speed up efforts toward market launch of its multi-protocol optical communications modem “HOCSAI” and its digital twin system “DTS.” Specifically, the company will further build out manufacturing and sales capabilities for both products to enable earlier commercialization. Warpspace also plans to promote the development of industry foundations and solutions necessary for broader adoption of laser communications through business collaborations with its new strategic investors.

Background: Space Communications Bottlenecks and Warpspace’s Approach

As space activity expands, conventional radio-frequency (RF) communications alone can no longer keep pace with the quality and volume of communications required by operators such as Earth observation satellite providers. Laser-based optical communications have gained attention as a promising alternative, but adoption has been limited due to multiple barriers.

Warpspace is developing and commercializing both hardware and software to support the adoption of laser optical communications:

Multi-protocol optical communications modem “HOCSAI”: This modem supports a wide variety of optical terminal standards (protocols) and enables inter-satellite and satellite-to-ground communication between different terminals without requiring tuning between systems.

Digital twin system “DTS”: DTS reproduces satellite behavior, inter-system coordination, and data flows in a virtual environment—enabling evaluation from payload integration considerations through operations planning and verification, including communications.

Through these products, Warpspace aims to help operators adopt optical communications smoothly and provide the space industry with essential “keys” to support the transition of laser communications into a new standard for space connectivity.

Strategic Collaboration with Investors

Warpspace will deepen collaboration with strategic investors to accelerate the buildout of an optical communications network foundation and create new space-business value.

Kohoku Kogyo Co., Ltd.: Kohoku Kogyo has highly reliable optical-device technology, including optical isolators for subsea cables with more than 50% global market share. The company also plans to apply its expertise in developing optical communication devices for next-generation satellite communications—such as high-speed switches—to support high-capacity, high-speed optical communications in the space sector. Warpspace will continue to deepen their collaboration with Kohoku Kogyo, building on the partnership strengthened since our previous funding round, and jointly explore new value and the best approach for entering and expanding in the space industry.

All Nippon Airways Trading Co., Ltd.: All Nippon Airways Trading Co., Ltd (“ANA Trading”), a group company of ANA HOLDINGS INC., gains a market advantage in the space industry by leveraging its expertise in the aviation industry, its global network, and its trading, finance, and investment capabilities as a trading company. Through the business partnership with ANA Trading, Warpspace will strengthen its supply chain management for products such as “HOCSAI”and “DTS”, and accelerate global sales strategy.

Toyota Invention Partners, Inc.: Toyota Invention Partners is Toyota’s strategic investment subsidiary focused on expanding mobility. Warpspace plans to build a long-term partnership with Toyota Invention Partners in the space communications infrastructure domain. Together, they will explore opportunities to co-create new solutions—such as linking optical satellite communication networks with ground-based mobility and IoT infrastructure—and contribute to the growth of space communications networks as a key part of future social infrastructure.

Hiromitsu Azuma, CEO, Warpspace Inc.:

“For roughly nine years since founding Warpspace, we have continued to take on the challenge of making space optical communications a standard option in orbit. We are encouraged to welcome Space Frontier Fund No. 2 as our lead investor, continued support from Kohoku Kogyo, and participation from new partners including All Nippon Airways Trading, Toyota Invention Partners, and Mobile Internet Capital. We will deepen collaboration with each partner to further accelerate development and commercialization of “HOCSAI” and “DTS”, while aiming to become a de facto standard that connects space and the ground—and contribute to a sustainable era of space utilization.”

SPARX Asset Management Co., Ltd. — Space Investment Team

Executive Vice President Misuzu Onuki and Vice President Shoki Hasegawa:

“Constellation deployment and the rapid increase in satellites have made communications a clear bottleneck for space utilization. Laser optical communications in space are expected to play an important role in addressing this bottleneck. Warpspace is working to drive the adoption of essential products needed to realize laser communications, and following our investment through Space Frontier Fund No. 1, we have invested again through Space Frontier Fund No. 2. We will support Warpspace to help open a new frontier for Japan’s space industry.”

Kohoku Kogyo Co., Ltd. — President & Representative Director, Futoshi Ishii:

“We are advancing development of products for space optical communications by leveraging high-reliability optical device technologies, including those for subsea cable applications. We are also taking on the challenge of the space domain with our manufacturing expertise cultivated in precision components. We are pleased that this additional investment further strengthens our collaboration with Warpspace, and we will contribute to the industrialization of space optical communications that the company is pursuing.”

All Nippon Airways Trading Co., Ltd. — President, Junichiro Miyagawa:

“ANA Trading accelerates our commitment to the space industry by leveraging its expertise in the aviation industry, its global network, and its trading, financing, and investment capabilities. We have decided to invest in Warpspace and officially entered into a capital and business allianace agreement. We are confident that this agreement bolsters better supply chain management and accelerates global sales strategy of Warpspace. It is more than our honor to join this ambitious effort which brings an innovation to the space communications. We look forward to creating a new value together in the space industry.”

Toyota Invention Partners, Inc. — Head of Investment Office, Motokazu Suwa:

“Toyota Invention Partners, Toyota’s strategic investment subsidiary, recognizes the potential for future space infrastructure to expand mobility not only in space but also on the ground. Warpspace is a pioneer driving the industrialization of optical communications in space and leading the development of optical networks both between satellites and between satellites and the ground. By investing in Warpspace with a view toward a potential long-term partnership, we expect the company’s growth strategy to accelerate further and the ecosystem supporting space infrastructure to be strengthened and advanced.”

Mobile Internet Capital, Inc. — President & CEO, Arata Motoki:

“Since our founding in 1999, we have supported startups across the digital technology stack, from infrastructure to applications. Space communications is an area we have long viewed as next-generation infrastructure. We are convinced that by addressing the bottleneck in space communications and advancing a shift to optical links, Warpspace can build a uniquely differentiated position. We will fully support Warpspace as it innovates global communications with technology originating in Japan.”
