STN:
Another Step
Forward for Broadcasting in Africa
11 March 2014
STN
has recently brought the new DTH platform of
STARTIMES to sub-Saharan Africa, using
KA-band on Astra’s SES 5 satellite with the
system of MPEG4 DVB- S2.
This was a
significant breakthrough bringing 100 TV and
multi radio channels to awaiting viewers in
the region. The second phase of this project
is already in preparation.
STN was specifically sought out by Startimes
a Chinese based company who are already have
a large presence in the DDT/DTH market in
Africa. They currently provide digital
Pay-Tv services for over 2.5 million
subscribers in 11 African countries and were
ranked by Forbes as among the Top 20 Most
Innovative Chinese Enterprises.
“This is just
another phase in STN’s business plan and new
discussions are already underway for
additional projects in Africa and other
regions across the globe” Mitja Lovšin –
Sales & Marketing Director.
Startimes entrusted STN with this new high
profile project with the key factors being,
STN’s proven experience and reputation for
high quality reliable services combined with
the ability to surmount any possible
obstacles.
As
part of STN’s work ethic to research the
needs of the current market and advance
forward, STN’s engineers developed an
enhancement for uplink transmission service
technology for the Ka-band. Previous studies
had shown that this Ka band proved extremely
sensitive to strong weather conditions,(
primarily the vapor caused by rain). This
new unique system has proven itself to be
most effective and provides maximum
percentage performance o regardless of
the current adverse weather sweeping accross
different parts for the world.
