THAICOM Public Company Limited has disclosed that the Company together with its local partner We are IT Phils., Inc (“WIT”), successfully provided IPSTAR services to Smartmatic TIM Inc., the technology provider for the electronic elections in the Philippines that was recently held in May. A total of 680 IPSTAR user terminal units were installed at the Municipal and Provincial Canvassing Centers throughout the country to transmit votes to the data centers in Manila.
IPSTAR service, using the THAICOM 4 satellite, was chosen as the main satellite solution for the first ever electronic elections to be held in the Philippines and was used throughout the country.
Mr. Sowmya Narayanan, Country Manager of IPSTAR Philippines said, “We are very honored that IPSTAR was chosen as the main satellite solution for the Electronic Election project of the Philippines.
We were given an aggressive timeframe to implement this project, which was done on time due to IPSTAR and We are I.T. Philippines, Inc.’s consolidated effort on the deployment of the VSATs. More than 77,000 Polling Centers are connected to 680 IPSTAR VSAT nationwide and relied on IPSTAR’s technology to transmit voting tallies on election day and the system performed flawlessly. This proves
that IPSTAR is not only the most cost effective solution but also one of the most reliable.”
Mr. Patompob Suwansiri, THAICOM’s VP of Marketing & Sales added,” I would like to thank Smartmatic TIM and our partner WIT Phils. in having trust in IPSTAR to provide in such a mission critical project. We have been fully serving the Philippine market since 2009 and, together with our local partners, we are very confident that the IPSTAR solution can help fulfill the needs of broadband services, especially in non-urban areas. As an archipelago with over 7,000 islands, IPSTAR satellite service is ideal to provide cost effective nationwide broadband services.”
Mr. Joseph P. Maddatu, Vice President and COO of WIT Phils., said, “We are proud of this feat and the legacy that we are leaving behind in the country’s first-ever automated elections, in our own small way, we did our part quite well.” He further said, “IPSTAR’s VSAT solution performed well above expectations, transmitting critical data across vast canvassing centers, a catalyst to a credible
and successful election”.
