and The Water Institute partner to
advance the next generation of
predictive flood intelligence
ICEYE
announced a strategic partnership with
The Water Institute. The partnership
will bring FloodID, the Institute's
predictive flood intelligence platform,
and its core development team to ICEYE,
expanding the company's end-to-end flood
intelligence capabilities for
governments, re/insurers, and emergency
management organizations in the US.
Developed at The
Water Institute, FloodID combines
physics-based hydrologic modeling,
physics-guided artificial intelligence,
Earth observation data and cloud
computing to help organizations
anticipate how flood events are likely
to evolve from onset through recession.
Through this partnership, FloodID will
complement ICEYE's existing portfolio of
flood intelligence solutions, adding new
predictive modeling capabilities while
building on ICEYE's established
leadership in satellite-based flood
observation and early warning.
ICEYE today
supports decision-makers throughout the
flood lifecycle. Its Flood Early Warning
solution provides up to 96 hours of
advance notice by combining global
weather forecasts, basin susceptibility
data and historical Earth observation
insights to help agencies and
re/insurers prepare before flooding
begins. During active flood events,
ICEYE's SAR satellite constellation
delivers near real-time intelligence
through cloud cover, heavy rain and
darkness, enabling Flood Rapid Impact
and Flood Insights products that provide
observed flood extent, water depth and
building-level damage intelligence
within hours of an event.
Built on Amazon Web
Services and supported through an Amazon
grant, the pairing of FloodID extends
these capabilities by adding
place-specific predictive modeling that
helps organizations better understand
how flooding is expected to develop over
time. Together, ICEYE's persistent Earth
observation and FloodID's predictive
intelligence create a more comprehensive
approach to flood intelligence,
supporting preparedness before an event,
operational decision-making during an
event, and recovery efforts afterward.
Pairing FloodID's
predictive modeling with ICEYE's
satellite observations creates an
observation-informed forecast: a
prediction that updates continually as
new satellite data comes in over the
course of an event. This feedback loop
lets the combined system track flooding
as it evolves, rather than relying on a
single forecast set at the outset.
Decision-makers see an updated picture
of how an event is developing and where
it is likely to go next, refined
throughout the event as new observations
arrive.

builds on a powerful track record of
collaboration between ICEYE, The Water
Institute, and Amazon. While using
ICEYE's Flood Rapid Impact and Flood
Insights products in operational
deployments, researchers at The Water
Institute recognized how combining
satellite-based flood observations with
FloodID's predictive models could
provide emergency managers with a more
complete understanding of evolving flood
conditions. The complementary
technologies created an opportunity to
bring together observed and predictive
intelligence within a single operational
workflow.
Originally
developed to support emergency managers
in Louisiana, FloodID has evolved into
an operational platform that combines
hydrologic forecasting, artificial
intelligence and cloud computing to help
decision-makers anticipate flood impacts
before they occur and better understand
how events are expected to progress.
Today, the technology supports
operational deployments and pilot
programs with government agencies and
emergency management organizations
across multiple geographies.

Hugh Roberts joins
