SatLink Launches New DTH Platform to Africa on Astra 4A

April 14, 2009

SatLink Communications Ltd. has acquired its own capacity covering sub-Saharan Africa on ASTRA’s Astra 4A (Sirius 4) satellite located at 5° East. SatLink’s new MCPC (Multi-Channel Per Carrier) is a powerful platform for broadcasters aiming to reach Direct to Home (DTH) viewing for sub-Saharan African customers.

“Our latest platform for Africa is a long awaited addition and strategically
expands our total global content distribution experience. Africa is a fast
growing market and SatLink’s geographic location linking Europe, Africa and
Asia makes our new platform ideal for broadcasters extending services or
tapping into the African market,” stated SatLink CEO David Hochner.

SatLink’s new platform for DTH free-to-air and encrypted channels enables
easy uplinks from Europe and downlinks in Sub Saharan Africa with dishes as small as 90 cm. Providing Sports, News, Entertainment and other broadcasters with the opportunity to reach households across the continent, the Astra 4A (Sirius 4) satellite represents an excellent choice for broadcasters, due to its location, footprint, elevation angle as well as technical makeup. The satellite is dedicated to video solutions over the African continent and SatLink's platform benefits from a high quality TV neighborhood for Africa.

SatLink’s acquisition of capacity over Africa enhances its world-wide
transmission capabilities and adds to its existing platforms over Europe,
Asia, North America, the Middle East and Australia, and to its extensive
global fiber network
