Bourbon,
a
French
marine
services
group,
has
chosen
Orange
Business
Services
for
the
modernization
of
the
communications
system
for
its
fleet
of
150
vessels.
With
this
contract,
Orange
Business
Services
is
responsible
for
integrating
and
operating
a
VSAT
type
satellite
communication
system
specially
developed
for
marine
communications.
This
system
will
connect
the
vessels
to
the
Bourbon
network
via
the
IP
VPN.
The
goal
is
to
implement
new
communication
services
and
new
business
applications
for
its
entire
fleet.
This
new
solution’s
deployment
of
45
vessels
and
four
ground
bases
has
already
helped
cut
communication
costs
for
Bourbon
by a
factor
of
five.

and
Increasing
the
Appeal
of
Bourbon
The
widespread
use
of
satellite
based
systems
marks
a
revolution
for
ships’
crews.
With
the
help
of
Orange
Business
Services,
crewmembers
on
Bourbon
vessels
will
be
able
to
stay
in
contact
with
their
families
by
phone,
email
and
online
chat
during
their
off-duty
periods.
The
solution
will
also
help
increase
Bourbon’s
appeal,
who
is
looking
to
double
its
workforce
over
the
next
four
years.
The
means
of
communication
are
in
fact
key
elements
for
crewmembers
working
and
living
far
away
from
their
friends
and
families
for
long
periods
of
time.
Creating
an
Effective
and
Future-Proofed
Communication
System
for
the
Vessels
The
new
satellite
communication
system
deployed
and
managed
by
Orange
Business
Services
will
enable
Bourbon
to:
- manage the increased flow of data sent and received by the vessels,
- offer its customers the use of its IT equipment and tools and thus generate new sources of income,
- transmit in real-time the status of the vessels in electronic form,
- monitor in real-time the use of consumables for each vessel,
- telephone over IP from the vessels: Bourbon has chosen a homogeneous IP telephony solution, based on the Business Talk IP, where the conventional PABX is replaced by a central IPPBX delivering all the benefits associated with these unified messaging systems: number portability, click to call, operational guarantees with its back-up system, flexible billing (consolidated, by site, etc.) and a report generation system.
In
addition,
with
this
IP
telephony
solution,
Bourbon
has
a
private
numbering
system
giving
access
to
the
Bourbon
directory
by
means
of
abbreviated
dialing.
Orange
Business
Services
Business
Talk
IP
solution
is
based
on a
monthly
subscription
contract.
The
cost
of
communications
between
vessels
and
Bourbon
sites
are
included
in
the
plan.
Outbound
communication
costs
are
covered
by
an
IP
pricing
rate
that
is
eight
times
cheaper
than
previous
communication
solutions.
