Angola to launch "Angosat"
satellite

The Angolan government has formalized a project
to produce, launch and operate an Angolan
satellite dubbed "Angosat", Angola's official
news agency ANGOP reported on Sunday.
The project also includes
the creation of human resources and relevant
infrastructures, said the report.
The Angolan government has
approved the contracts for the building, placing
in orbit and operation of the "Angosat"
satellite signed between Angola's Ministry of
Postal and Telecommunication and the Russian
consortium "Rosoboronexport".
The project estimated at
327.6 million U.S. dollars will take into
consideration the characteristics of Angola's
national territory and its dimension and
population density to meet the needs of economic
growth, even in the remote areas.
It will also takes into
account the growing demands for resources of
transmission by satellite as the Angolan
government aims to turn the country into an
active member of the information society through
the growing use of information technologies.
