Selects
Beam
for
IsatPhone
Pro
Docking
Units
10th
March
2010
Inmarsat
announced
the
selection
of
Beam
Communications,
as
the
provider
of
docking
units
for
its
forthcoming
IsatPhone
Pro
handheld
satellite
telephone.
Beam
Communications
will
design,
manufacture
and
distribute
a
range
of
specialised
docking
units
for
IsatPhone
Pro,
Inmarsat’s
first
global
handheld
satellite
phone,
which
is
planned
for
launch
in
June.
As
well
as a
standard
docking
unit,
Beam
will
produce
vehicular
and
maritime
versions,
and
a
version
to
accommodate
indoor
use.
“Beam
is a
leading
manufacturer
of
satellite
docking
units
and
equipment,
with
many
years
of
experience,
so
we
are
delighted
to
have
them
working
with
us
on
our
global
handheld,”
said
Helen
Stalker,
Commercial
Director
of
Global
Satellite
Phone
Services
for
Inmarsat.
“They
are
yet
another
best-in-breed
partner
that
we
have
secured
to
work
on
the
ultimate
combination
that
is
IsatPhone
Pro.”
“The
docking
units
that
Beam
provides
will
broaden
the
appeal
of
the
handset
to
different
markets,
and
extend
its
use
in a
wide
range
of
environments
and
applications”.
Michael
Capocchi,
Managing
Director
of
Beam
Communications,
said,
“Securing
this
contract
with
Inmarsat
to
develop
IsatPhone
Pro
docking
units
is a
strategic
opportunity
to
diversify
the
Beam
business
and
work
with
the
world’s
leading
provider
of
mobile
satellite
communications.
Inmarsat’s
IsatPhone
Pro
will
be
distributed
through
many
of
Beam’s
existing
global
distribution
channels
and
is
therefore
extremely
complementary
to
the
existing
business.”
