Strix Wireless Mesh Integrated for Mobile Public Safety Communications Solution at 2008 Olympics

Strix Systems, announced that its Access/One® Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS) and integrated high performance Personal Mobile Command (PMC) communication systems are being deployed for emergency response vehicles and tactical mobile communications for public safety at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Silicon-Star Science & Technology Development Co. Ltd and Beijing Aerospace Changfeng Co., Ltd., partnered in the design and integration of the PMC which delivers ongoing mesh continuity and instantaneous triangulation between public safety vehicles and security personnel strategically dispatched around the Olympic Stadium and downtown Beijing during the Olympic Games in Aug 2008.

Strix Access/One modular technology is integrated into the PMCs which are small, portable, hardened wearable units that instantly establish high-speed, low-latency, pervasive mobile wireless broadband network communications between each other and emergency command vehicles. Attached to public safety personnel via a small body-worn harness or belt, the PMCs perform the services of a comprehensive mobile communications center with integrated wireless broadband and satellite access for live on-scene video surveillance and personal video/voice communications.

Emergency response command and public safety vehicles are deployed with Strix Access/One OWS nodes providing a mix of up to six high power 802.11 a, b, g, j and 4.9 GHz (DSRC-C) radios configured for access or backhaul as needed depending on the project. Strix high performance radio optimizations are combined with advanced antenna technologies to deliver maximum coverage, penetration and throughput.

We needed to deliver a complete and stable mobile video/data/voice communications solution for public safety at the Olympics, said Mr. Zhou, CTO of Beijing Aerospace Changfeng Co., Ltd. We chose Strix because it delivered high bandwidth with excellent coverage over a continuous moving mesh network while streaming video surveillance and multimedia collaboration between personnel.

This is a great success, said Cindy Lee, General Manager of Silicon Star. The integration of Strix Access/One technology not only provides a solution for security at the Olympics, but for many more public safety and security projects.

Strix Systems Access/One offers excellent quality and performance which gives Silicon Star and its customers a superior price/performance advantage, said Martin Levetin, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Strix. Silicon Star is a high value partner and distributor with excellent technical and market experience.
