SatCom Solutions
May 13, 2008
SkyPort Global Communications
has signed a contract to provide
emergency satellite
communications solutions to the
District of Columbia National
Guard
As part of the agreement,
SkyPort engineers have installed
satellite communications
hardware and dishes at a number
of National Guard facilities in Washington, DC, to connect Guard members to the world-wide
communications network in the
event of an emergency or loss of
land-based network access. The
terminals can be used to send
and receive voice, video and
data communications.
“SkyPort has a strong
tradition of providing emergency
service to National Guard units
throughout the United States
and we are proud to now be
serving the unit in our nation’s
capital,” said Michael Polmar,
vice president of sales for
SkyPort. “Often during
emergencies the terrestrial
network is unavailable. By
providing a satellite-centric
solution, we are securing the DC
National Guard’s ability to
access the nation’s
communications network.”
In the aftermath of
Hurricane Katrina, SkyPort won
the prestigious Minuteman Award
from the National Guard for
providing a high-level of
satellite communications support
to units responding to the
disaster throughout the
Southeast.
