State
University of New York Renews
Contract with SES AMERICOM to Link
its 64 Campuses via Satellite
The State University of New York
(SUNY) has renewed its multi-year
contract using SES AMERICOM’s
AMC-5 satellite for its SUNYSAT
network, which is used to deliver
the University’s
popular New York Network and
distance learning applications to
its campuses throughout New York
State, as well as state and
government agencies and the media
nationwide.
“SES
AMERICOM has played a key role in
helping us grow the use and
popularity of SUNYSAT, and in
particular our New York Network,”
said Roy T. Saplin, Jr, Director of
Administration for SUNYSAT.
“The
reliability and performance of
AMC-5, coupled with the terrific
service and support we’ve
received from SES AMERICOM over the
years, made the decision to renew
our contract an easy one.”
Since its start in 1988, SUNYSAT
has connected the 64 campuses that
comprise SUNY, and today it reaches
more than 300 total dedicated
receive sites across New York State.
From the teleport facility at its
Albany base of operations, SUNY
transmits its New York Network,
distance learning applications and
other programming and data
applications to AMC-5, for
distribution statewide and to news
organizations and clients throughout
the nation.
“We
have enjoyed a long and successful
relationship with SUNY, enabling
their SUNYSAT network to reach all
of their facilities statewide and to
deliver their New York Network
nationwide,”
said Orlando Skelton, vice president
of Enterprise Solutions for SES
AMERICOM. “The
renewing of this contract is a
testament to this success and to the
quality of service provided by AMC-5
and our employees.”
